June 3, 2013

Rudy entered the room and was introduced to the members of the search committee.  After some pleasantries, the interview began.  Right off the bat, Rudy was asked – “What strengths would you bring to this position and why should we hire you?”  Rudy was prepared for this question and was eloquent in his response.  But this wasn’t always the case.  Rewind a year earlier when Rudy was interviewing for a similar position.  The “strengths and skills” question came up and Rudy wasn’t prepared.  He stumbled, bumbled and continued to ramble on.  A bit embarrassed by his lack of preparation, Rudy vowed to never let this happen again.  He conducted research into. . . A Strategically Written Cover Letter is Key To Securing an Interview

As In Sports, Persistence Pays Off In Your Job Search
February 18, 2013

One of the lessons a person learns from participation on a successful sports team is the value of persistence.  In some games a team will be clicking on all cylinders and everything just seems to go right, but in others nothing seems to work.  The key to a successful season is picking yourself up after a defeat, dusting yourself off, and working extremely hard for the next game.  This same strategy can be used in a job search campaign.

If you are actively searching for a new job, you will want to. . . (More)

Gaining Clarity In Your Job Search
Using SMART Goals to provide a clear path to your next job
January 14, 2013

In 1981, George T. Doran, introduced to the business world the concept of S.M.A.R.T. objectives.  Since then, others have used this acronym to define the process of how to effectively and efficiently achieve goals.  This same process can be used to help provide you with clarity within the job search process.  S.M.A.R.T. goals and objectives need to be:

Specific – Goals should be precise about what you want to achieve.

Measurable – You must establish criteria for measuring your goals and objectives.

Attainable – Your goals must be challenging, yet they must also be within reach.

Relevant – Your goals need to be aligned with your personal mission or needs.

Time-Based – Your goals need to have time frames attached to them for when you will complete the goal.

Goal setting is a process for targeting the outcomes you want to . . . (More)
